Being engaged is such a special time, and an engagement session is a great way to preserve these memories! Let's help you plan for our session!

This Is a Date Night!

If you feel a little awkward about taking photos at first, that is completely normal! My biggest piece of advice for your session is to treat it like a date! You're already dressed up and spending intentional time together, so why not make it a whole evening? Plan dinner after, grab drinks, go see a show, go do something special!

The best way to think about your engagement session is this: it's basically a date night, I just happen to be there with a camera. Don't worry about not knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands- I will guide you through the entire session! When you focus on each other instead of the camera, that's when the magic happens. The more it feels like you two just being yourselves, the more natural your photos will be!

Your Outfits

The biggest rule is simple: wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. If you feel good, it shows!

You want your outfits to complement each other, not perfectly match. Think cohesive instead of identical. Choose colors that live in the same family and styles that feel like they belong together.

Neutrals and muted tones photograph beautifully, but you can still add personality! Try to avoid large bold patterns or bright neon colors since they can be distracting in photos.

Keep accessories simple and intentional.

Mix textures like denim, knit, linen, or chiffon to add depth.

Tips for Creating Your Look

For a Casual Look

You cannot go wrong with jeans and a great top. It works almost anywhere and feels relaxed and natural. You can always dress it up a bit with shoes or accessories.

For a Dressier Look

Flowy dresses and skirts are beautiful in photos because they move. A button down paired with dress pants is timeless and clean. The key is choosing something that feels like you, just slightly elevated!

Comfort Is Key

We will be walking, sitting, maybe twirling and running around a little! Make sure you can move easily. If you choose a shorter dress, just keep in mind it might limit certain poses.

I always suggest trying everything on ahead of time. Stand next to each other, sit down, move around. Make sure you both feel good in what you are wearing! Confidence + comfort above everything else!!

Bring Layers

Layers are one of my favorite tricks. Jackets, cardigans, scarves, or even a simple sweater can completely change the feel of a photo. They also give us variety without a full outfit change.

Your Moodboard & Inspiration

Take a look at the images you have saved and loved! Do you notice a pattern?

If you are drawn to light, flowy, whimsical photos, lean into pieces that move. If you love city vibes and clean lines, go for something more structured and polished. Let your inspiration guide you, then make it your own!

Colors the Camera Loves

These tones photograph beautifully and always feel timeless:

White

Beige

Grey

Navy blue

Sage

Forest green

These colors tend to feel the most romantic and natural on camera!

At the end of the day, this session is not about being perfect. It is about the two of you laughing, holding hands, and just being together.

Treat it like a date, and I’ll take care of the rest!
